About

H2Hub is built by a clean-energy practitioner who has worked across policy, regulation, finance and engineering

H2Hub is a product of ReneEnergy. It exists because the questions that decide whether a hydrogen or clean-power project happens — resource, cost, carbon, regulation, offtake — are usually answered late, expensively, and behind closed spreadsheets.

    Founder

Alex N. Waithera is a renewable-energy and environmental professional with more than two decades of experience spanning clean-energy development, climate-change mitigation, energy regulation, environmental management, industrial operations and sustainability.

His career has included work with organisations and initiatives connected to the World Bank / Global Environment Facility, GIZ, Kenya's energy regulatory sector, and the U.S. manufacturing industry.

He holds a master's degree from the University of Auckland and has additional training in environmental management systems, data science and digital technologies.

Through ReneEnergy he has spent years writing about clean-energy technologies and publishing video explainers on the Renewables 2050 YouTube channel. H2Hub grew out of that work: the same engineering, cost and carbon logic, turned into a tool developers can run against their own projects.

What that background brings to the platform

    Clean energy & climate

Two decades of work across renewable-energy development, climate-change mitigation and carbon finance — including experience connected to the World Bank / Global Environment Facility and GIZ.

    Energy regulation

Direct experience of renewable-energy licensing and compliance within Kenya's energy regulatory sector — the permitting and compliance reality most project tools ignore.

    Industrial engineering

Environmental and engineering work in U.S. manufacturing, where energy, emissions and operations meet real plant constraints.

    Data & modelling

Training in environmental management systems, data science and Python computing, applied to transparent, reproducible energy models.

    Why I built H2Hub

From years of blogging at reneenergy.com and making YouTube videos at Renewables 2050, I kept seeing the same pattern: promising clean-energy projects stall — not because the technology failed, but because nobody tested the assumptions early enough. Resource data was optimistic, cost inputs were borrowed from a different scale, regulation arrived as a surprise, and the offtake never firmed up.

I explained those failures publicly: hydrogen, fuel cells, industrial decarbonisation and the economics that decide whether an announcement becomes a plant. H2Hub turns that analysis into something you can run yourself — the same engineering, cost and carbon logic, applied to your own project, with every assumption visible and every number labelled as an input, a published source, a benchmark or a calculated result.

H2Hub deliberately stops short of claiming more than it can support. It produces preliminary project-development analysis to sharpen your own decisions and prepare for formal work — never a substitute for licensed engineering, FEED, due diligence or investment advice.
